Disappearing caulis
« on: May 01, 2009, 18:53 »
A friend planted out a row of small cauliflower plants a couple of weeks ago, but they have all been eaten.  His allotment is fenced, as we have problems with rabbits, but there may be some gaps - I lost small cabbage and cauliflower plants in similar style a few years ago before fencing my allotment.

What is the most likely culprit; pigeons/wild birds or rabbits?  The plants have completely gone - no stalk or anything remaining.

If everything of all the plants are gone  I'd be inclined to vote rabbits.

Slugs wouldn't eat the whole plant.

Sounds like those pesky wabbits.
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

same thing happened to me last year with caulies, cabbage and broccoli.  We never did discover the culprit but we covered them straight away this year and so far.......

I'll bet on pigeons. They  decimate un-netted brassicas.
Thanks
