« on: April 17, 2009, 22:50 »
Been offered some well rotted goat poo(5yrs old). Can have as much as i want(the farmer wants rid quick-he's run out of space). Will it be ok to use it? as far as i know the goats only ate the fresh grass, not hay.

excuse my ignorance  :) ....what difference would it make whether the goats ate grass or hay?

Beacause I know that the farmer doesn't use weedkiller on his own land and the hay/straw is bought in from other farmers.(could have been treated with that BAD,BAD weedkiller)

It's not as straightforward as that - even if the animal is a herbivore, there's the issue of whether the manure contains grass that has been treated with aminopyralid - whether before being eaten, or before being used as silage.
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...

Would it make a difference if they had used affected straw/hay as bedding and it was mixed in with the poo?

The question is what ends up in the manure, not how it got there.  So, yes, affected bedding which ends up in manure on your plot will be as problematical as the poo from eating affected grass.

That said, the herbicide problem isn't as widespread as one might fear - it's just that it's difficult to be sure at the moment what the original provenance of the manure is  :D
