....and a couple of questions

I've ordered a 50m kit of the higher 4ft stuff with closer mesh and a big enough energiser to add an extra 50m to if required later. (Keep away nasty buzzard).

 a) Do those of you that protect your chooks with this type of fencing switch it off at night? if not,

b) do you still shut them away for the night?

I am no expert as I don't need to use electric fencing, but would of thought to keep in on
at night as thats when its needed most to keep mr fox out. ( I know they also hunt during the day)  The chooks will put themselves in & I would def shut them up.

keep the fence on at night as this is when the fox is most likely to investigate. With new fencing I like to "bait" by putting a sausage or meat gravy just inside the fence to tempt the fox so he will get a shock and will then know to avoid.
make sure you buy a good fence tester and ensure that there is at last 3,000 volts first and always lock your chooks away at night.

oh foxy thats naughty, but can see why you do it.

We lock the girls up at night and turn the fence off to save the battery.

The houses are well fox proofed so we know they are safe.

But if the hen house is secure and the girls were shut away, why would I need to keep the fence on at night? Can a fox break into a hen house?  
Haven't had any problem so far with the other shed that they're in.  
You're beginning to worry me.......where's my torch?
