Out of 7 (8?) there is one left and that has only just pulled though. The first four died early on when out in the unheated greenhouse - but no frost! Granted, they're not fond of slight temperatures thinks me  I sow another three, they grew into healthy plants and then I water them and leave them to drain off in the shade, then two more of them die in protest - presumably due to them being depraved of their blessed direct sunlight for 48 hours!

they only like a bit of water, too much and they keel over

By you own admission, first time was too cold.

We can deduce over watering as CQ said on the second occasion as you left them to drain.

You have to get them just right.

I haven't started mine yet as have nowhere warm enough to put them.......have to wait for the weather to warm up a bit before i sow! Days are fine but nights are still frosty here

My Cucumber seed packet (F1 Bella) says to sow from beginning of March to end of May. It may depend on variety, but sounds like you should be fine.

Mine, for outdoor ridge cucumbers which are a lot tougher than greenhouse sorts, will be going in in another week or two.  I'll plant out late May if the weather keeps good under cloches, or grow them on in larger pots if it turns a bit colder.  They won't be going out without protection until the overnights are reliably into double figures.
