I did exactly the same thing the first time I lit my paraffin heater (my husband had always done it before as it was too cold to go out!!). My seedlings were so small that I didn't dare put any water near them in case of damping off so I blew on them, then I blew some more and by the time I'd finished I considered calling an ambulance for an oxygen tank!!! Amazingly, all is well with the seeds and they are growing beautifully - more by luck than anything else. Hopefully Sean, yours will be OK too.

Horrible things paraffin heaters as they can cause real problems if left unattended...

I went off to college (aged 18) and my parents had agreed to look after a large aviary of foreign finches for me through the term time...

During the coldest of weathers I used a parafin stove to keep them frost free in the 12'x8' indoor-flight.

The results were not good.... smoke filled flight killed around 60% of the birds.
My parents were up-set... but it was just one of those things.

Turning the wick too low to save on fuel can lead to smoking.  :(

Next time I buy a house I'm going to look for one that has an outside wall that is bathed in sunshine all day long every time the sun is out....

My dad has a lean-to greenhouse / conservatory in just the right position.... there's a sliding double-glazed door leading to the house. Not only does the house warm the conservatory it works very well the other way round when the sun is out.

He grows plants so incredibly well. Pricked out seedlings gallop away while mine sit thinking about it in cooler conditions.

My dad simply has no need to heat his greenhouse / (single-glazed) conservatory.

If only I had thought about that before we moved here!! Whoops!!  :(

I did exactly the same,i think its called guttering. The glass, plants and even cobwebs were black.I got everything out and had a wash down with a soft brush and water.
The parrafin heater is now in the back of the shed.It seemed expensive to run anyway!!!

Same here, it happened last year and we had to start again with the tomatoes. We now have a little heater that attaches to the top of a gas bottle and it works brilliantly. This year's tomatoes are currently about 6" - 8" tall and the temp is about 11c over night.  :D

My father has planted out the first 3 tomatoes in a greenhouse that he makes use of in an elderly neighbour's garden.... takes a chance with the frost and often wins.  ;)

Every year he manages to have an early crop...... (always beats me!  ::) ) but still no heat in his conservatory at home..
