How old before worming??
« on: April 10, 2009, 23:28 »
Hi, Can anyone advise when I should start worming?

Our girls are not yet laying, bought as POL so am guessing about 18 or so weeks. and probably too young??

Should we worm as a precaution or only if evidence seen?

Regards
Tracey

I worm my chicks at 6wk.

If they are POL and haven't been wormed then start with Flubenvet as soon as you can. :)

It does depend on their environment too.

Lots of birds on land that has been used for a long time is high risk.

A few birds on land not used much before is low risk.

Birds kept in their own roofed run is a negligable risk.

My 2 chooks have free ranged my garden for nearly 4 years and have never had worms.  (OH is a parasitologist).

But it does no harm to worm them every 6 months for your own peace of mind.
