« on: April 06, 2009, 10:24 »

ACV seems to keep algae growth down if it's not a galvanised container

If its this type you mean http://www.ascott.biz/acatalog/Galvanised-Drinker-25-litres-Complete-With-Stand-PY246.html
I have one and found that the birds perched on it alot and poo down the sides which run into the tray at the bottom where the water is held for the birds. Which I didn't like at all. So decided that this had to stop. Came up with smallish branchs of holly from my garden and stripped the lower twigs and put this end into the handle and the same from the other side. This worked and lasts a good while before having to be replaced. They won't perch on it now  :D :tongue2: :D

As for inside I just us washing up liquid and sponge scrubber but I can put my arm inside.
Cheers,

Paula

We've got those ones from Solway feeders.  How about the Milton type stuff for sterilising baby bottles?  not s strong as sterident

But although on the outside the birds do perch, the way its done the poop doesn't go into the water tray underneath, which is why I like them!!! lol

These ones?

Is it outside then?  We use cheap half height buckets outside for our girls. £1 each at the cheapo shop, so they can have several dotted around the run, the drinkers you mention we got originally for the turkeys for when they were inside, so we only got the odd bitof shavings in the tray bit.

But have you got any slabs you could stand it on? Maybe keep the dirt out a bit
