Powder Derris
« on: April 05, 2009, 21:04 »
Hi,

I recently meet with a poultry supplier on a beautiful farm with all her birds free ranging it was beautiful. Anyway, she had a tip that I had never heard of before for preventing not curing mite/lice problems from starting.
Firstly she would use front-line on new birds to kill mite and lice and keep them separate for a month to make sure there was no other problems with them.
Then she would find where her birds preferred to dust-bath and provide that spot with a little shelter made of four sticks pushed into the ground and a piece of galvanised sheeting over it. Then she would add a couple of tea spoons of powdered derris to the dirt/grit that they are dusting in.
Derris is meant for preventing greenfly and other mites off plants.
It deffenatly works for her does anyone else us it or see a problem with it?
Cheers,

Paula
