slugs

Is it just me or have other people got away without slug damage this year?
Haven't noticed many postings on the subject

Last year my early plantings and sowings of lettuce and salad leaves were eaten off 4 times! This year the first plantings are growing away well.

Could it be the dry spring? or is it down to my new woodchip paths instead of grass?
Playing all the right notes but not necessarily in the right order!

i thought that today as i've just seen first signs of the little whatsits!!!!

Think maybe the cold weather helped slow them down as well.............trying to make up my mind whether to get some nematodes as there were lots of them last year, or chance it.........first time i've grown potatoes and i want them to be dinner for me and not the slugs ::)

I've put some climbing french beans in last week, and noticed a couple of days later that the leaves were been eaten.  I put some slug pellets down and whilst I was looking at my allotment, I had a looksee and found that the pellets had claimed some of the enemy - there was bits of slime about.  So yes, I think they're about.

I haven't seen any so far. I'm trying regular doses of nematodes this year because they took so much last year, but I understand they only work on the little ones underground. Haven't seen any snails either except a few in the pond. If April is its usual rainy self, we may be saying differently by the end of the month! I'll be out there with my torch ...

I've noticed a few small ones round my broad beans. Did my first application of nematodes today - hopefully won't be too cold for them. Rain on the way this week too so that will bring out the little critters.
If at first you don't succeed..... cheat!

We had really cold weather, followed by really quite dry, no warm and wet so far but I definitely had a lot fewer slugs after I got rid of all the long grass and put down bark chips :)
