leg bands
« on: April 01, 2009, 09:11 »
Having 4 barnevelders is very lovely but we would like an easy way to tell them apart.

Do any of you use poultry leg bands for home identification.  I thought that the spiral fit ones looked easiest to use, is this right?

What size would I need for our large Barnevelders if we use them.

So far I can spot one out of 4 as her eyes are a slightly different colour to the other three.

Thanks Sarah 20mm it will be.

Out of interest which type have you used.  It will be fun catching ours never mind fitting leg bands and the easiest one would be the quickest for them to endure.

I have the spirals, i have some i can spare if you want just 4 .
They are only blue & yellow but you can use alternate legs. It can be fun trying to remember if mrs Bennet is yellow on left leg or right but I get there eventually

If you want some pm your address to me & I'll post some tomorrow :D

I'll try the spirals as well.

We've called our Rose, Daisy, Ivy and, can't even remember the fourth one, I'll have to ask Bob.  Anyway the only one I can pick out is Daisy- greener eyes.  I think I'll just rename her Iris, if I can't remember anyway she woun't mind.  Bob just popped upstairs and he thinks she's called Lilly, not if I cant remember it shes not.

Its lovely of you to offer to post us four,  I'll have a go at the PM thingy.

Sarah

Thank you, leg rings arrived safely today.  I will order the other ones before trying to fit any.  I think it could be quite a challenge.

I bought a selection of colours for mine so my other half could tell me which solour was acting odd or ill.  I can tell the differance but it is a real help to the eye to see who is doing what egg wise or to keep eye on one in particular.  So easy to put on and their names are relivent to what colour they hae on leg. eg. Violet, Rusty Olive etc

Only just spotted   Glad you got them ok :D

It is best to go for different colours, good idea with the names to co ordinate Mrs P, might do that with the ducklings as I have a sneaky feeling they are all going to look the same

Very easy but you can tend to run out of names after a few years.

Another thing you could use is zip ties like for electrical work, they fit all sizes of legs

Yes were definitely naming after colours.  Daisy, Iris, Ivy and Rose.  Thank goodness we've only got four, I don't know that many colour associated names.
