Slow to germinate?
« on: March 28, 2009, 13:52 »
I have raised beds that have been covered up to keep em warm for a while now. The only thing that has germinated in them is radish and even those took 3 weeks. (I'm in the Midlands by the way). Just wondering if everyone else is finding the same?

I tend to sow my stuff at home or in the cold frames, and then planted on rather than rely on germination at the plot, the exception being carrots and planting spuds, onion sets, shallots & garlic out.  Even the parsnip get started off in loo rolls.  Despite a few mild days (was it really warm & sunny last week  ???), the soil will still be pretty cool especially with this wind.  Have to say I've only just put the onion sets out and the spuds will go in the ground in a week or two.
Failure is only a temporary change in direction to set you straight for your next success.
Only those who dare to fail greatly can ever achieve greatly.

Yeah, its a bit cold and the wind has been coming from the north.  Have you had any success in that patch in previous years?  Have you tried cloches?

My stuff has been germinating in my porch but not tried outside yet - waiting till after tonights sharp frosts...
Mad about allotting!!!

Looks like we are in for some mild weather over next 2 weeks so you should see a bit better progress.

Radishes always germinate quickly...if it is lettuces and beets then they will be along soon.
