« on: March 12, 2009, 20:07 »
Hi, are there any grape growers out there ( vinyards wise ) i have just planted a small vinyard on the lotty ( three rows of six vines ) this year is my third and i should get my first crop. I'm using the guyot system and Seyval Blanc vines and would love any help or advice.

i am doing something very similar currenlty, but i am in the process of having 7 rows of 7 vines (49 in total) a mix of sevay blanc and rechienstiener. I plan on using the henry scott system. what are your plans for yours now? are you going to net them?

Hi pOOrstudent, i will net eventually hopefully i've got something to protect this year. The scott henry sounds interesting, is it cane replacement. How old are your vines and have you waited for your first crop, or have you made any wine yet.

its all still under construction i am afraid the vines should arrive with in the next few weeks. i have made wine but not from my own garpe i hope to do that in about 4 years time. And yes the scott henry involves cane pruning.

Hi, thats the problem isn't it all the books tell you not to take a crop till the third year, or they say the vine can be ruined for several years. This is my third year but it does seem to have gone quickly and i should get some bunches but heres the rub they say you can only take a half crop and a full crop next year, so i should have something to report later.

Hi, you better go by my book, cos it says three bunches third year and no more than seven bunches after that, that sounds a bit better.
