separation fencing
« on: March 11, 2009, 17:52 »
i am getting  4-6 new ex batts towards the end of april and i need to seprate my run for them as they will be using the smaller of the sheds to house in for a few weeks but once they are settled and stronger then they will go in with the other girls completely,i was thinking about using netting { fruit cage } to seprate them would that be ok . my plan is to go from one main post of the run  at an angle to another main post an tie the posts with the netting stapled to it to give it extra strength an thightness also the netting will be wrapped against the sycamore tree trunk . if this would not be suitable then i can get wire mesh but it mite mean that i wont be able to get the girls end of april as i have quite a bit to pay out for in april .

Think my main concern Looby would be if they tried to get at one and other and the netting became slack.

You could get to the plot to find a hen wrapped in it :(

i did think of that , i do have some home made pea frames that are wire mesh stapled to a wood frame that i could use at the base that tie the netting above that but they are only about 2 foot high . unless i wait another month so an make more of these pea frames .

You might be able to scrounge some orange builders netting from a building site. I use the green version, its fantastic to use to separate runs as it means if the cockerels want a little pop at each other they cant hurt themselves on chicken wire. :)

i can get hold of that stuff but i thought the holes mite of been to big though ? will see if theres enough of it in the garden but i will double the height of it as well. i was warned today that seems girls will be weak etc so i really dont want my other girls getting to close to them for a while . so i may well do a double layer  or use the pea frames as a solid fence and behind that i can use the orange stuff .

Hi, we have had to separate our run for a while while the baldies settle in and we have used a clothes airer - not an upand down zig zag but a hurdles joined together type and fastened chicken wire to that. It stopped the problem of sagging wire and meant that I only had to put two posts in. I'm hoping it's easily removeable afterwards too. Nic.
