Egg covered in dried stuff and blood
« on: March 02, 2009, 17:36 »
Hi,
We have an Araucana named Easter egg that I thought hadn't laid in a few days. Not uncommon for her because she likes to roost in the adjoining coop with no light. Todays I found an egg in the straw covered in what looked like a dried sac with streaks of blood on it. This is definently from her (she is the only green egg layer we have). She had no blood on her and has not changed any of her behaviors. What is this and is she going to die from it?
Thank you for your wisdom,
  Rebecca

i don't know what caused this, but if she's ok in herself i don't think you need worry about her dying from it.

Keep an eye on her over the next few days though - it just sounds like she strained too hard.
keep an eye out on her vent: if you see anything sticking out (except when they're pooing) it could be prolapse, which is serious.
