chick advice please
« on: February 28, 2009, 19:29 »
Having just hatched my first batch on wednesday/thursday how long B4 they stop beeing so lethargic as we have yet to see one drink and they move around very little and the only reference i have was when i saw Hugh have is 1000s delivered and i thought were day olds. Sorry for the silly question but i had't realised how concerned i would get after beeing mum for 21 days

Hi MM
Have you tried tapping at the food and water dishes with a finger to give them the idea?

I have on an odd occasion dipped a beak into the water to show them where it is :)

Yes i have dipped their beaks into water twice 1st time when i removed them from the incy and again this morning. They also seem warm enough as they are not crowding each other right under the lamp.
Thanks for the replies

They can take a while to recover from hatching, but if this is the first day it's totally normal!
They don't normally eat or drink for about 24 hours, so don't worry about that either. In fact forcing them to eat or drink too soon is bad for them!
I demand the right to buy seed of varieties that are not "distinct, uniform and stable".
