10ft by 6ft is only 5.68sq mtrs - 6ft is 72 inches, which is 1.82m
and 10 ft is 120 inches which is 3.08 mtrs.
multiply the 2 together and you've got 5.68 sq mtrs.

sorry grannie! don't mean to pick at your calculations, I'm only thinking of the chickens!
 :)

Welcome and I can tell you that you've found the right place to ask questions and share away the hours!  We will be getting chickens in about 6 weeks' time and I have been lurking here daily too!  I'm going the Bantam route because our garden is small, as is our integrated hen house/run.  Half the fun of prepping for the new hens is sharing and asking questions here.  So enjoy and we want pictures - lots of them when you get your hens!
When I die I will slide in sideways, a glass of wine in one hand and chocolate in the other, screaming, "Whooo hooo!  What a ride!" as life is to be enjoyed to the fullest!

thanks foxy. Realised my size coop will seem a little cramp with 4 and little i can do as its nearly finished. So 3 it is for now.  ;)Although i can/will build run as large as my garden will let me.
Ehh? I thought you said 4ft x 4 ft coop, that's the same size as mine and I have had 11LF and 2 silkies in there and it still wasn't cramped

Incidentally, I currently have 7LF and two silkies, and the other day they were briefly all in a run 4 ft x 16ft and were actually fine. ( I was surprised because 4 of the LF are cockerels!)
The bigger the run the less important the amount of space per bird becomes. Two birds in 2 sq m could be trouble if the birds don't get along, but a dozen birds in 12 sq m is masses of space.
Geez I have just read the second page of this thread and reckon I'm going to get shot down in flames for suggesting that you could easily keep 6 hens in that area very happily!
I demand the right to buy seed of varieties that are not "distinct, uniform and stable".

 And you guys know what your tallking about. You wonder what its like for me trying to figur eit out.?

Just to mention i thought more birds in my 4 by 4 is cramped , i think i might be a little soft with the birds before i even get them. i just want them to have as much room as possible.

Thing is they need 12 inches of perch space to sleep in.  If they are anything like my girls, daytime is for being out and about and the coop is just for dashing into to lay in the nest box (out of three they only use one between 8 of them).  My house is 12 feet square for 8 hens although technically it could take more, and the covered run is 10m square, although they are not confined to it for a lot of the time.
