New allotment
« on: February 21, 2009, 19:54 »
Hi, I have just taken half of an allotment as a friend was struglling a bit. I have taken back the polythene which was placed over the dormant site last year and dug about 10ft by 10 ft today - I am knackered but encouraged that I might just get the hang of this!
Can anyone give me any practical advice pls? I have already secured a free supply of horse manure!!

Have a hot bath :) Do a bit more digging tomorrow, if you can.

Welcome to the forums Badger71,

If you look on the Info section of the site, there's a few articles about clearing and planning your plot.

As O4N said, take it steady and don't be surprised if you can't move after too much digging

Not everything needs to go into the soil in the next couple of weeks, so pace yourself and don't worry too much.  You'll get there in the end.

Most importantly, enjoy yourself and take piccies  :D
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...

Join me on the knackered stakes badger71 - I've had a couple of months off the end of a spade over the winter and it has caught up with me too.  I'm only digging in compost on a clear allotment which should be easy.  It's moving the compost that is hard.
