Hi everyone,

This weekend I started building my hen house  I will post pictures later once I download them off my phone.

So far I have built the frame and put the floor in and also put the cladding on the back of the house. Before i proceed any further I have a question. I understand the next boxes need to be dark/dull for the chooks to lay in them, but does it matter if the rest of the house is light or dark during the daytime? If it needs to be light i will need to install some sort of window, if not i wont and will just have the ventialtion holes at the top.

Hi Andy. I've just teh light from the vents and the pophole. They don't seem to mind when they toddle through to the nest boxes.

Rob, I was hoping someome would say that! it means a lot less work for me 

Also, whats the average size for a pophole?

Can't remember exact size. Somethign like 10"x8" I think.

Depends how big your hens are really. Smallest size they can comfortably fit through but they'll duck if need be.

If you do a search for pop hole, you'll likely find a good range of sizes.
