Yes you can and what you don't know yet, you soon will. I started with very basic crops toms and lettuce to be percise and now a few years on I'm growing everything for the table and trying new things. You don't stop learning just have fun with it.

4 years on i still stand and look at mine and wonder the same! but it all takes time. what you have to remember is that the plots that look perfect usually looked after by the retired or the unemployed.

although saying that, one woman on our site has 5 plots and works full time, but she has been doing it for 25 yrs.

I've moved the topic - but don't worry too much, read some of the information stuff on this site and look at some of the links which Aunt Sally has listed. I found the short videos on things like sowing and pricking out very useful.
Begin by dividing your plot into sections and do one section at a time. Use some string and sticks to measure it out. You'll be surprised how much easier it seems then.
Good luck
Self-sufficient in rasberries and bindweed. Slug pellets can be handy.

I'm confident that I'm rubbish at anything except digging!
I'm quite an expert at digging.   :tongue2:

Ooh! I dug an ENTIRE spit of earth yesterday (for my bean trench) - WITH A SPADE!!!   :D

(quick explanation for those who don't know - very heavy, clay soil with millions of flint-stones in it - only ever dig with a fork)

In a couple of years time you'll be wondering what you have been worrying about and even thinking about getting another plot (if you can)  :D  My advice is don't stress about it - if you do get a few failures, so what?  Be proud of your achievements!
Failure is only a temporary change in direction to set you straight for your next success.
Only those who dare to fail greatly can ever achieve greatly.

I'm feeling the same (and I've only got a garden to worry about).

I've been so excited this last few months, buying all the stuff  I  need, checking  re-checking the checking the seeds once more.

But now.................I'm full of fear wih just a tinge of excitement.  :(

I keep feeling that Spring and Summer will come and go and I'm still stood still faffing about and forgetting to plant stuff.

I'm even dreaming about making a mess at it.

My main worry is continual sowing, I'm very organised in every day life but just worry about this veg growing shinanigans.

Sorry to rant but I babble on when I'm worried  :( :( :( :( :( :(

I suffer from memory problems and i am going to try this year ....

everytime i make a sowing that needs repeating,  to put a reminder for 3/4 weeks later on my mobile phone.

Had to do this with birthdays appointments etc, so thought would do it for the garden as well :)

That's what happened to me last year, and I still had the most delicious carrots I have even tasted. ;)

One thing is for sure, when growing your own, if you give up before you start you won't get anything, stick at it and even if you don't get anything to eat you will gain experience!
I demand the right to buy seed of varieties that are not "distinct, uniform and stable".
