« on: February 10, 2009, 22:57 »
Hi how do you candle cream legbar eggs, Ive set up a box with 60 watt bulb and small hole if i put a white or brown egg over the hole light passes thru eggs but with the cl eggs light does not pass all the way thru. Have now fitted a 200watt bulb still no light penetration if you look side on the light only goes 1/3 way up the egg where do i go from here and has anybody had this problem

try a 3watt LED aluminium torch from Tescos. They work a treat I think around £10. OH bought one recently and worked a treat :)

just as good as a proper candling torch

how long have the eggs been incubated for? They may be a bit harder -but I would think you could see something at around 10 days.

Another way to check progress is by the Air Space. Are you able to see that when you candle?

Some of the books I have suggest putting a small pencil line where the air cell is, then you can check progress that way ???

The pic below shows duck & turkey but it goes on same lines for chickens only obviously over a shorter time scale :)

Sarah :)
