Hi everyone.

I just moved my chickens onto new grass area, and was about to let them out, when I have realise that I have put grass seed down. Is it alright if the chickens eat grass seed, or best to keep them away from it?

We let our chooks out on re - seeded grass last "summer" and to be honest they seemed to ignore it (fussy birds!).  I'm sure it wouldn't do them any harm as it's only seeds - its just how successful you want your re-seeding to be.  If they do get a taste for it you may have start all over again.

The grass seed that we sell in the shop apparently contains something which makes the grass seed indigestible for birds and so passes out whole.  I don't know whether this would apply to wild birds only or would include chickens!  But at least your seed would be well fertilized
