Anybody grow yacon (Joe Swift grew it on Gardeners' World) & if so is it worth it?

Hi Greengirl,

Yes I had a go - could only get hold of one plant and it didn't arrive until June, so the short (and not exactly warm or sunny) season didn't produce fantastic results. The tubers I got (about eight) were big and succulent but not particularly sweet (again because of the season I think). I got the tastiest results by slicing and dehydrating, but you need a lot to make that worthwhile.

I'm trying to overwinter the crown and grow on a few more plants for next year - if it survives!

On balance probably only worth the planting space if we get a lovely hot summer. Still, the plants are imposing and attractive if you've got the room, and we allotmenteers are an optimistic lot. Nothing ventured...   :)

Thanks Christine, think i'll hold fire, they're very expensive after all & it sounds like the space could be better used.
