Anybody grow yacon (Joe Swift grew it on Gardeners' World) & if so is it worth it?

Hi Greengirl,

Yes I had a go - could only get hold of one plant and it didn't arrive until June, so the short (and not exactly warm or sunny) season didn't produce fantastic results. The tubers I got (about eight) were big and succulent but not particularly sweet (again because of the season I think). I got the tastiest results by slicing and dehydrating, but you need a lot to make that worthwhile.

I'm trying to overwinter the crown and grow on a few more plants for next year - if it survives!

On balance probably only worth the planting space if we get a lovely hot summer. Still, the plants are imposing and attractive if you've got the room, and we allotmenteers are an optimistic lot. Nothing ventured...

Thanks Christine, think i'll hold fire, they're very expensive after all & it sounds like the space could be better used.
