How many eggs??
« on: January 22, 2009, 09:01 »
My three chickens laid three eggs on Monday for the first time.  :D
Then again on Tuesday :D  :D
Yesterday I took three eggs out of the house in the morning, then another two in the evening, one of them soft shelled.  Five eggs from three chickens in one day.  How is this possible?

Hi EggBound

I've had 2 eggs from one bird in one day, and the second was also a softie.
Sad thing was she was coming towards to the end of her laying time :(

Would imagine with your girls she's just starting to get into the swing of things :D
They have got grit & oyster shell down all the time?

Sarah :D

Well done it's great when they start laying.

I have a dreadful confession to make - a pullet we have had since last July (POL?) finally laid her first egg yesterday. Noticed she was missing and sat in the nest box, in there for ages. When she came down checked and a perfect egg. Great.

Put it in my pocket and horror of horrors promptly broke it! After all her hard work

Thanks for your replies.  Yes, they have got a tray of grit and oyster shell down.  This is the first soft shelled egg I've ever seen - freaked the kids out a bit!  Only one egg today so I'll see if they get back to a more normal pattern tomorrow.  It's all or nothing in the egg world it seems!
