can you feed chickens sweetcorn?
« on: January 20, 2009, 14:09 »
i was wondering if it is possible to feed chickens sweetcorn, to help bulk out layers pellets and mixed corn? if so how much should you feed them as i am guessing too much would make fat, and would you just give them the whole cob or would you have to first seperate the kernals so they were loose?

Hi p00rstudent, my girls love sweetcorn in any shape or form. If it is on the cob, I give them one cob between 2 birds, and if its loose/defrosted kernels a small handful each scattered all over the run, so that they all get some.

Best just to keep it as a treat though - it will make them fat and affect laying if you give them too much! The equivalent of a small handful each per day is about right.  :D
