Has anyone on this site got a hen house from here? http://www.hen-house.co.uk/html/poultry_housing.html

I am a would-be chicken keeper, have been thinking of getting an eglu or cube. However, these hen houses caught my eye. Quite expensive, though. Are they worth the extra? How have the people out there with wooden hen houses managed to keep their chickens warm during the cold weather we have been having?

Any feedback on this site?

I haven't purchased one of his hen houses but did go along there as I was going to buy some Pekins from him. All the hen houses are hand made there he showed me the work shop. They were certainly well made he was a nice man you could ring him.

Thank you for your replies, I will give the owner a ring when I am about to buy my housing. They have some lovely chickens as well. I fancy some Welsumers.

I remember that website from when I was ppoaching ideas to make ours :roll:

The custom designs look brilliant and the others are beautifuly put together too

I build most of my own stuff but I have also been collecting carpentry tools for many years. If I did not have the tools to do it I would probably buy everything ready made.

We would probably build our own if we had the ability, tools and the time, because most of the well built and strong looking hen houses you see are quite expensive.

If I get one of these I will probably compromise by painting it myself.

I spoke to him at a show in Ipswich, lovely chap, he agreed with me that you would really want a lovely big front lawn to show it off :shock:
It would'nt get pinched cos if I could afford one of those I could obviously afford a security guard too :shock:

They are lovely though

They do look attractive on the website, good enough to be a garden feature! They have got to be comfortable for the hens though. I like the look of the aviary style one, as it looks easy to clean and you could get into the run easily to clean it.

I am very tempted. Perhaps when my chicken bonds come up ......!
