chainsaws
« on: December 13, 2008, 18:32 »
In the past i have had two cheap petrol chainsaws that both packed in after a couple of years. Currently have a little electric one that is fine but no use at all when you want to go foraging for some fallen trees. So can anyone recommend a decent petrol chainsaw that is repairable and long lasting. I have a tanaka hedgecutter that has been fantastic what are there chainsaws like? I know there are quite a few leicester folk on here so for them anyone know any dealers in north leicestershire? There used to be a good little shop on the melton road in thurmaston but went there today and it had become a financial advisors
All these moments will be lost in time, like tears in rain.

The tanaka chainsaws are fine. A friend of mine has had one for about 5 years now.
Our company uses Stihl chainsaws though. They seem to be about the pick of the bunch.
I've got an old partner saw. I've had it now for about 6 years or more. Before that, I had a McCulloch (even cheaper) I've never had any problem getting bits for them. The partner is part of Electrolux group.
I guess it's all down to how much you're willing to spend on one, and how often you're going to use it. :D

I was just thinking that you could get your chainsaw through "mowdirect" which is online.
This website has a link to them.

http://www.allotment-garden.org/greenhouse/garden-machinery/index.php

They've got tanaka, echo, husquvana, stihl. In fact just about every decent saw going.
Why not click the link and have a browse? Be careful though, they've got lots of other machines for sale as well. You could end up spending far too much money.... :D

Thanks for the link  :D  I will probably investigate buying locally first if they are not too much more expensive - easier to take back when it goes wrong

just to complete the story i bought a stihl 14" chainsaw from DM Chainsaws in loughborough - just about as cheap as anywhere on the internet but the the difference is the guy spent 30 mins taking me through maintenance and use - brilliant. Result...  the stove has been on constantly for the last week and burning just free logs during the day  :D
