The only things growing on my veg garden at the moment is turkeys!!!!  Nothing else survives with them running around!!!!   :D  :D

Mine (like the ducks & geese) are fenced off from the veggies, but they arn't esp good at eating MY nettles !

What sort have you got ?

Our chickens manage to skirt around the nettles. We currently are rotating them around the growing area to keep the weeds down and fertilise!
Currently growing cabbages, weeds, leeks, weeds, brussels and did I mention weeds.

I'm growing lots of weeds, thistles. But also Jerusalem Artichokes, leeks(stick thin), garlic, onions, kale, spinach, spring onions. Everything else got killed by the slugs.

We've got onion's,garlic, cauli's,some sprouts that went in late and aren't doing too well so it look's like we are having brussel tops for Christmas dinner and we also have some Dobies spring cabbages in that seem like triffids as they just seem to double in size every time I go down the plot.

I'v also put some broad beans in but they aren't making a show but we have some spares in pot's in the cold frame.

I also wish we had some chickens but we are'nt allowed livestock but we might be getting some Quails to keep at home.

Hi Mel,
Hydroponics units, and spuds in the Orangery, hot bed?

Do you live at Helligan? It sounds like you've got a Victorian kitchen garden there Mel.  Did you know that the Victorians grew pineapples in hot beds?  Genius!

I've got a row of spuds in for Christmas.  My Cavello Nero is in great shape and I have a forest of sprouts.  My PSB will be ready soonish and  I still have lots of chards.  My rocket and Mizuno is still growing really well outside and I have parsnips which are coming along nicely.

I just lost a crop of spinach which was a bit disappointing it all just went yellow and died.  That's not as hardy as I was lead to believe.   I've grown some corn salad (lamb's lettuce?) in tubs.  That is so slow growing it's hardly worth the bother.

This is still my first year so I missed out on some winter veg. I wish I had grown more, and longer lasting varieties of carrots.  It would have been nice to have  managed to have everything ready and in place for garlic and onions this winter.

Still, we're taking another shot at the greenhouse on the plot this weekend so hopefully we'll be able to crack on with some more salad stuffs with the protection the GH affords the plants.

This is my third year of growing and I have still not quite got it right, I have some spinach still going, celeriac, parsnips and have spring cabbage growing, leeks doing well. I have sown my onion sets and garlic sets and broad beans. I have some rocket and salad lettuce still going in my polytunnel..but I can see there is still going to be a gap in March! I have a bed set aside for asparagus and a few globe artichoke plants but I am now regretting my decision not to persevere with brassicas due to last year's complete disaster, and it's all too late now...someone remind me of this next year please!!

Hi,

End of my first year, or rather half year. I've still got one double row of parsnip, two rows of cabbage (greyhound), a small block of swede and about a dozen misplaced onions coming back which were missed earlier in the year.

Majority of plot now dug over, about another 5hrs digging, less if I really put my mind to it. :bounce:

lol not quite Helligan, but I do like Victorian techniques and varieties !

Orangry is just a posh name for conservatory, kept the planners happier ;)

Yes I'd love a pinary vinery, too cool !

I've a nice steep south facing slope which I should really do something with, if possible, but I think restrictions might be a problem though,

I'm also very interested in the old hertiage fruits, particularly apples and hope to do grafting soon to help preseve the old biodiversity.

One of the treats that I discovered completely by accident has been turnip greens. Flavours a lot less harsh that kale and needs just a few minutes steaming to cook.  It would also appear that the more one picks the more vigourously it grows
