The crowns take up a bed about 12' x 6', (a grid of 13 x 3 crowns, 1' apart in rows 3' apart).

Don't forget though that the ferns will take up a fair bit of space when they grow.

Thanks DD that does help, I may even just do 2 x 7' rows in the tunnel and then the rest outside and see how they get on, at least now I have a better idea how many I should be starting off this coming spring. Cheers.

Growing from seed, the capital investment is minimal, so no great loss if you decide to get rid of them after only a few years.
There is a four year/four bed system too. (I'm going to start this next spring, I hope )

I was given a few unwanted asparagus crowns the year before last and had no idea what to do with them :? .

They sat through the early spring in a heap until I found an empty space for them.... right along side the shed.

Since then I have picked spears to eat and had some foliage to accompany flowers from the plot for TOH.

I'll look forward to reading more advice here about what I should have done to keep them cropping and healthy :oops:
