How much room do Chickens need to walk under their sleeping quarters? The run will be about 3 foot high but we was thinking of putting the house on stilts so they could walk under that too for extra room.I dont want then to bump their little heads :? Any advise appreciated please :)

I've got mine raised around 18 inches errmmmm 45ish cm. The grils are fine with it. BUT Its easy for them to hide in the back corner under the coop where you can't see or grab hold of them. Its also a pig at cleaning time - I can just about get the brush under but can't scrub it properly.

When i get 5 mins .. (lol who am i kidding) I plan to raise the coop up so its around 3.5ft off the floor, it should make things easier for me. There are some disadvantages to being a big bloke  :?  :(

I suppose it depends on the coop (mines 3x4x3ft) I wouldn't like to put a 8x6 shed on 4ft stilts  :D

Mine is raised 3ft, partly to make the floor an easy height for cleaning, partly to make the roof of the adjoining run an easy hieght to walk in.
It wasn't a particular consideration but it's just about high enough to crouch under to get at/put food hoppers under the coop. Catching birds from under it hasn't been necessary, maybe because they know they can still be reached, although that might be giving them too much credit for intelligence. ;) :tongue2:
I demand the right to buy seed of varieties that are not "distinct, uniform and stable".
