Hi,

Ever since watching Gardeners World, 2 weeks ago i've been itching to get planting broad beans however now that the frost has come is it to late?

I am sure your beans will be fine. They will take some time to come through but they will do eventually. Plant them deep enough, 3 inches, and firm the soil to deter hungry mice.

The alternative is to plant them in pots and plant them out later. Do not keep them too warm, you only want them to have their heads above the soil and not get leggy. Mice will still dig them out of pots.

The ground here is frozen solid so no planting or plotting.

Starting beans off in loo rolls is fun, as long as you don't overwater them and make the rolls mouldy     I start mine off in the cold greenhouse, you could use a frame if you have one.  I like the way the new green shoots emerge from all over the place, never just the base of the roll where you'd expect. So, when you think there's nothing showing you get a surprise when you find them shooting from the sides.
