I have read somethings that says to group certain things together ie all your root veg in one, all your salad veg in another.  Is this the done thing?  I am reading about planting certain flowers with your veg as anti-bug precautions, and planting carrots alongside onions to confuse flies (heh heh, stupid flies!)

Companion planting is what it's called, onions with carrots that sort of thing I grow marigolds in the greenhouse to help against whitefly, chives planted under roses does seem to keep blackspot away. Bob Flowerdew has a book on it I believe.

great book called Complete Book of Companion Planting. Do like Bob's style..........if it works just do it if it don't then don't do it again.
Everything he advises he does on his own plot..........

And he's another one that advises personal liquid waste for lots of uses
