That's a good idea, but it's not for me. Our site's foxes would happily tear up the plants going after chicken manure.

Pelleted chicken poo is the best. Bone/blood/fish meal aren't acidic although wonderful 'vitamins' for general plant growth. Blueberries need more acidic soil to unlock soil nutrients, Dominic, and possibly your soil leans more to the acidic side with more nitrogen available. And yes, cages are definitely necessary against birds who simply love them.

Chicken poo is acidic.

I seem to be in a minority here, but my blueberry is doing fine in normal soil, every other feeding, I give it pelleted chicken poo instead of blood/fish/bone meal.

It could be that your soil is in a minority.  In ericaeous in a pot they should be fine but give them a lot of tap water in the summer.

I was talking to the bloke on the next plot the other day,he's a gardener by trade and he says the soil is quiet acidic on our part of the site and that his blueberries will be going into a trench of ericacious compost and he has some of the additive that was mentioned we can share so hopefully they will do well.

He also mentioned that we should both get a good crop because there will be more bushes together.

Here's waiting for the summer to see how things go. 8)
