Moving hemispheres...
« on: November 18, 2008, 20:50 »
Hi all

It's been a few months since I logged in here! Some dramatic stuff happened at home, and my little boy and I have had to move back to South Africa. The only things I'm missing about the UK are online shopping and my allotment! So I've dug up some beds in my parents' garden and started planting a few things...
wondering who else is in this part of the world (southern climes or similar ie going into summer now) and what you're all growing...

The soil here is pretty much sand with a bit of chicken poo dug in. It's hideously poor after my amazing rich loamy allotment earth, but hey at least there's sunshine!!
Planted a few peas which are starting to come up, and some lettuces, and there are a few tomato and pepper seedlings ... anyone else down south? Ozzies?

Love Lisa

Hi Littlelisa

Sorry to hear about your dramatic last few months, hope life feels a little more settled now.

Good luck for the coming growing season!
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...

Skip is one of our Ozzies but we don't hear much from him these days.

Hi littlelisa - sorry to hear your news.  At least you didn't mention missing the weather!!!  Whereabouts in South Africa do you live?  I used to live there when I was younger (in the sugar cane belt along the Natal/KwaZulu coastline) and I can remember paw-paw, banana and squash growing in the garden and some pathetic attempts to grow sweetcorn, cabbage & shallots.  Green beans (probably french beans?) used to do extremely well  :D
Failure is only a temporary change in direction to set you straight for your next success.
Only those who dare to fail greatly can ever achieve greatly.

Moving on.
