what can I grow/sow now ?
« on: November 01, 2008, 11:01 »
I've got broad beans, garlic, brocolli, curly kale and Swiss chard in, is there anything else I can be sowing now that will stand the winter ?
I've got a small covered area which I could start stuff off in (or the window sill) but not big enough to grow on, so anything would have to be grown on outdoos.
Thank you

I don't think there is much to be doing over the winter months but you can try putting in some overwintering onions, you may be a bit late though

I think you need round peas, not wrinkle ones. I've heard people talk about Feltham First and Meteor; I've done Celebration. I'll put some more in if/when the ground dries out a bit.

I've got some garlilc in but it's taking it's time to appear.  As it's planted  late as it were, when should I expect to see the first shoots ?

I'm planting my garlic this weekend, so a little late. Last year they went in on October 15th and were poking through by November 9th.

Ah - the importance of keeping a garden diary!

Thers an old saying about broad beans and bonfire night, search for broad beans and I'm sure you'lll get all the info you need. Garlic can be planted right uo until December in some ares but sometimes doesn't show till spring. - once again have a search...
