advise on crop rotation
« on: November 02, 2008, 22:30 »
Hi all,
I have read the five year crop rotation plan on this site:

1. Potatoes, followed by mustard green manure and lime following
2. Legumes, peas and beans followed by additional lime if required
3. Brassicas
4. Sweetcorn, squashes, pumpkins, courgettes etc
5. Roots (carrots, parsnips) and onion family, followed by manure

I would like to use a six year crop rotation plan so I could include tomato and capsicums. Which would be the best place to add them, I was thinking between sweetcorn and roots/onions or would between roots and potatoes be better?

I am just starting out growing vegetables any help will be great.
Thanks

tomatoes and potatoes are related so you'd be better with it further away from the spuds

A six year crop rotation will need a bigger plot than i have.
I am trying for a three year but as i start my 3rd year i can see its difficult.

To plan a six year crop rotation would be a nightmare.

To be honest, I think people get too wound up in precise rotation.

I work roughly (very) on a three year rotation of spuds, brassicas, roots & legumes. The rest go in where they can, but I never put the same crop in the same space in successive years.
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?
