i have just started keeping chickens what time do you put the chickens to bed?

Once they have settled they should do it themselves, most chooks are in and roosting by dark

my 3 warrens put themself to bed as soon as the light begins to fade they have a coop with a door that i lock every night when they go to bed (at around 6pm at the moment) then i get up at around 7am to let them out but i am going to invest in an automatic pop hole opener with light sensor so my life will be much easier i hope !!!!!!!!!

Mine get themselves all tucked up around 4.30pm now.  Then I let them out at 7am.

Mine put themselves away as the light goes...I love the way they put themselves to bed...so much better behaved than my children!!!!

Our girls were all tucked up in bed by 4.44pm tonight. It's not a very nice night tonight with icey rain so who can blame them getting huddled up.

They choose their own bed time really, and it depends mainly on the light. If you try and shut them up too early you will find they are still outside, and refuse to go in, too late and it will be dark, not so important if the run is secure (and you have a torch. )

i am lucky in one way , about 100 yards or so from my run is the cementry an on there lovely masive trees that the parakeets roost in so i use them as a guide line as when to put my girls away at the mo its 4pm to 4,30 pm. i have to make sure they are in i could not have the worry of using a automatic door  opener in case one of them gets shut out . but as i found out today they are messy * they all fly directly over the run an yesssssss the pooed on my head

I have 3 girls, 2 Amber links and a Warren, they put themselves to bed like the others, soon as the light starts going, good girls they are.  I also get up at 7ish to let them out, keeps me and them in a routine!!  Don't think i'd trust an automatic door, I'd still have to go and check.
