A little worried! - egg problem
« on: October 18, 2008, 18:40 »
yesterday, Nugget my 22 wk old goldline laid her fist egg (aprox 12 pm) This morning I let the girls out and there was an egg with no shell sitting on the floor under the perch ( nugget happened to still be on the perch and all the others were on the floor) My other 2 laying girls laid later this morning so thought it must be Nugget getting the hang of laying and forgot to put the shell on    well at about 3pm today Nugget dissapeared into the hen house and was in there for over 30 mins. When she came out i went to check the nest box and there was no egg only the plastic one i put in to show them where to lay and it was very warm so she had been sitting on it!!. Do you think she just saw the plastic egg and had the urge to sit on it or that she may be eggbound with a bigger 2nd eggie?
thinks her guardian angel`s gone on strike !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I would imagine as she has only just laid her first egg that she's just getting into the swing of things practicing as it were :)
I had some very odd looking ones with Crumbs first eggies, but she's a goose so things might be different :?

Has she eaten & drunk today as far as you tell?? When odd eggs are due they tend to go very withdrawn and sit hunched up.

I would keep a close eye on her & see how she is tomorrow :D

Thanks for the prompt reply Vember, she is eating for England, and has been her usual self yesterday and today, she has oyster shell and layers pellets ad lib so dont know what happened it was quite a shock as roastie and paxo have been laying since end of august and never seen an egg laid with no shell!! :? was just a little worried about the time spent on nest and no egg! thought maybe she is struggling to pass a big egg! i know goldlines are egg laying machines.
