IMO trimming a beak because it has become overgrown or split as can sometimes happen is OK as that is taking care of our birds. I think beak trimming for any other reason is  completely unecessary and a potential risk to the bird.
So there!!! :D

Totally agree with Foxy

The beak doesn't always grow back either :(
Try watching those girls eat out of a shallow dish  :(

They don't grow back if you cauterize them like has been suggested this is the way battery hens are done.
Have a look at this LINK  :(

Apparently it is painful but is done anyway to prevent certain behaviours. If done, it is recommended between 7 and 10 days of age and it will cause stress for the bird.

I am citing from HERE but I'm sure there are other sources on the web.

I would suggest that it is not something to be recommended and certainly not without knowing the correct procedures.

oh Rich I had a look on that webiste now, I didn't relaise they packed them up so close together. I totaly agree how can anyone treat any animal like that. I feel so proud that I keep my own hens now and watching them happily wondering in their enclosure is lovely,my 6 warren hens have plentey of space and they can go in or out all day and food and fresh water is always available. How is battery hens still legal in this day in age ?

cruel to it

animals feel pain just as much as you do

im sorry but how do you respond to a comment like that in a friendly manner

when someone says they did that then there is no point being soft a flowery about it

i have had the feeling for sometime now this forum is getting a bit to
sensored

im not being funny or trying to start trouble but it seems to me to be going the way of ( you cant post anything that may upset someone )
as i said i dont mean to offend but im a very blunt person and i say it as i see it

i mod my posts alot and dont put things that normally i would say

if the forum is going to get this way then its time for me to move on im sorry to say

Just with a little thought NP, how about " I totally disagree with this method I feel it is cruel and a better method could be found to egg eating hens, such as .........."

I'm a little unsure about the censored bit, very little moderating needs to go one usually all we do is shift stuff about, we just like to keep things friendly.

If you're too blunt NP, it'll just turn into a slanging match. Better to put a point of view across calmly and factually and allow people to decide for themselves how they want to play it.
