Hi new to this site,  :D got two blackrock girls 6 weeks ago. Angelina & Astrid, they each lay one egg a day, have the run of the garden, they are happy & healthy. I read here about mites and i would hate for the chucks to get them. What should i look out for. Their bed is cleaned out every day. Love some advice. thanks.

It takes a bit of time to start with, took me 3 days! not that I did it for 3 whole days!  have a look at the notice board and it tells you to resize images and get a photobucket!  Hope you succeed :)

Hi Babybird welcome to the forums :)

The best way to check for nasties on your bird is to pick them up and have a look.
The Vent area seems to be a favorite for Lice, and I found with mine other than not laying there wasn't anything else to go on. It wasn't until I looked that I saw the critters :(

And red mite are tiny tiny things that live in the house during the day, grey at first then red as they suck on your chickens blood.  Look at perch ends and in little crevasses.  or run a white cloth or kitchen towel under the perch, if you see red, you've got them.

When you put the girls to bed at night is the best time to look with a torch.  If you shine the torch upwards and there are any on the inside of the roof, you can see them falling down in the torchlight.

Nasty things!!!!!!

Yes but at the weekend I have used painter chalk to mastic all the cracks up and make them smooth (round the roosting Bars.)  Fingers crossed. Next weekend I am going to do the rest of the coop.
