Leave some of the better nbeans on the plant when the plant dies back the beans pod and all will naturally dry  when you can bear it no longer gather the beans , release the seeds from the pods. Dry on some kitchen paper paper, inside the house, on a warmish windowsill, for another couple oof weeks. I then pop in a jar that is lined with kitchen roll and hey presto.

Actually I don't like runner beans but I do grow loads every year and dry the actual beans for stews. I usually end up with a couple of old fashioned sweet jars full for the winter stews.

Just keep an eye out Sian, that they don't get fungi and rotten in the seasonal weather, you can just cut them at ground level and dry indoors on the vine to make sure.

What a lovely gift. Hope you manage to save some seed. I've found they dry well in the hotpress, (after they've dry as much as poss on the plant)
Good luck  :)
