Remote Web Cams

Has any come across Remote/Stand Alone web cams on allotments.

I was wondering how this could be done and where to purchase one from.

Basically, is it possible to watch my allotment from my house.

The distance between my allotment and house is a 5 min drive and the allotment cannot be seen from my house.

Any ideas are greatly received.
Thanks

I'm not an expert but the issue is you would need a server at the allotment to connect the web cam to  - which would probably increase the likelihood of getting robbed! You'd need net access there too - I've included a few links to show you how to do it - but there is also a stand alone unit - but it's VERY expensive! Sorry!

As a bit of an IT geek i can help a little!

So, you can get webcams that have all the gubbins in them to stream what it sees over the internet. We have them at work and they are quite good. Prob is though, you obv need 240V power for it to run, and an internet connection to plug it into, or wireless nearby if the webcam supports that.

The commercial route link that mike posted solves both the issues being solar powered and using 3G/GPRS to transmit the images. Prob is, the unit is probably expensive, and so is 3G transmissions!

The other solution, and it has to be said the most expensive and on top of that the most risky, move to a house that backs onto it as I did.    Here is a photo, just happened to be taken last night from my study of me pumkin...
