Hi Upert

Reading the data sheet for Nippon powder states that it has low toxicity to birds, however I would be very cautious.

Is it possible to use the liquid version Data aheet here and shield it from the hens. Nippon used to make a version that was pet and child safe that was a small container that had the poison inside that had small ant size holes in it.

Out of the two data sheets above, although I am no chemist, the liquid is slightly safer.

Its a matter of 'licence' , many products have uses outside those that they are licensed for. The licensing process is long and expensive one for the manufacturer and the fact that a particular use for a product is not listed, is more often than not down to economics rather than safety factors.
Have a look at the list of ingredients on products like Nippon and you may find them to be virtually identical to much more expensive products that are licensed for poultry use.
