Does anyone here have an electric stunner to help when culling?  If so, where did you get it from?  Thanks.

I had been looking at this one from Ascots but a bit pricey. Now I have been able to use a stunner at a friends place.

I looked into getting one but they are really expensive, not for the home chicken keeper at all. Plus you have to do a course and get the certification.
I demand the right to buy seed of varieties that are not "distinct, uniform and stable".

Gosh, see what you mean about the price! Thanks for replies. Think the gun is an easier option for now.

I am doing a some culling soon -not looking forward to it at all -getting proper training though first.
Saying that my neighbour uses an air pistol and I have to say death was instant.

Rifle better - need higher power usually than with pistol. Do it point blank at base of skull and angle slightly upward to penerate whole of brain areas. I find one shot sufficient (.22) and there really is less flapping and struggle stress for the bird. Saying that, usually put a second through as precautionary measure.  Still do it at dusk or night.  Better when dealing with larger birds too.

You are absolutely right! Would always use a rifle in preference (not me personally) my neighbour is a bit exceptional with his ummm pistols....not a regular guy if you get my drift...

isn't there a mechanical device?  Thought I'd seen one at the place where I got mine.  Looks a bit like a beer pump  :?

My Brian is certified!!!!!!

Yes, honest!!!!!

He has an electric stunner, but it cost him over £500 about 9 years ago. And he did his course at Melton Mowbray.  And is certified with the Humane Slaughterers Association.

Sorry totally misread your post Grannie.  Thought Brian was Human trained.  Could he pop over here as there are a few I'd like to get rid of. The barsteward who has just bounced a cheque on us for £187.00 for a start.
