Christmas potato seeds is this a good deal?
« on: August 25, 2008, 15:31 »
I found these while searching for birthday pressies and i was wondering if they were a good deal and if they will work for Christmas spuds. Oh and how much would you bid up to?

If this is not in the right place please could someone move it for me, thanks

Poundland are doing some for £1, we bought some a few weeks ago (they've still got some though) and they're already coming up, looking quite healthy although the seed spuds were pretty squishy, I wouldn't pay a lot for them, but these seemed worth a try

A couple of weeks ago the same Seller had them at Buy It Now £3 kez (I bought some) - but has since found they fetch a far higher
price (over 3x more) by making folks bid. So no - since I recently bought the same thing from them for just £3 I don't think they're a
good deal at that price.
With p&p it'll be over £10 total even if no-one else bids - £1 a potato!
Personally I wouldn't pay it for Carlingford, although I did for a more exclusive variety from another nursery.
JMO, but I'd agree with masha & shop around a bit

PS kez - who were you browsing seed taters for as a birthday prezzie?

I agree with the others. With the postage it is even more expensive than the seed catalogues were selling them at.
There are some bargains to be had on ebay but this isn't one of them.

Sorry i lost the thread
I didn't buy them in the end they went up to a ridiculous price.

The potatoes where for my person of a dad who keeps saying you can't potatoes in a bucket or 1 foot deep worth of ground its just wrong. So plan was i start growing them now give it to him for his birthday in a large pot in October.

On Christmas day rip it open and "say i told ya so!", I'm not being mean its a challenge he set me when i put some potatoes in 1 foot deep soil, he words you'll never pots out of that and guess what i did!
