Rhubarb

Can anyone help with a rhubarb question?  I have had a plant for at least three years and for the first half of this year had loads of sticks off of it, some very thick.  I planted some tomatoes in front of it which did cut out some of the sun but I have read that they do quite well in shade.  I now find that I have had no new sticks emerging for some time and the ones that are there are very thin and spindly.  Is it me   or is it the time of year when rhubarb stops producing.
Clueless but learning

heres a tip....... split the plant this year and grow 2 plants .dont shade em they like a full sun position to grow well ,feed the older one with manure on top of it this winter just dont cover the growing crown after you have split it ,i find that by digging out one side and spliiting the plant in the ground werks for me just lever the part away you want from the old root,   start a new bed off by digging a trench fill with manure and cover with soil plant the remaining new crown in soil and leave till spring .
still alive /............

Hi did you stop picking early july if not your crowns will suffer and produce less each year to pick later than this grow three patches and alternate your late picking ie picked late 1 in 3 years then dont pick at all the following year hope this helps.
