Egg Size advice please
« on: August 26, 2008, 18:52 »
I have recently added to my small flock of 4 babcocks four Marans which I believe to be between 10-15 weeks ish. On collecting my eggs this morning i discovered 1 normal size egg and 1 very very  small egg.
Could someone advice whether this is a very early Maran egg or a abnormal one from my babcocks.
As Im sure you can tell Ive not got a lot of chicken knowledge having only owned my Babcocks a few months.

Cheers.

Firstly things are fine. The first eggs from young pullets tend to be very small. Thats normal.

Secondly the birds that you are talking about are much older than you think. Think 24 to 25 weeks instead.

I don't know what colour Babcock's eggs are but if it was dark brown then its the maran, like Bodger says though, 15 weeks is way to early, mine is 26 weeks this week & I'm hoping an egg will appear very soon
