I'v tried for a couple of years Sazzy, but never had much luck, they usually fall off the plant before they are ripe!

But I'm sure some people on here grow them successfully!  Bit too late to start them now though, but as you've got the seeds, have a go next year, you never know!!!!

I'm growing some small ones.  No fruits yet but the plants look healthy enough.  Mine are in the unheated greenhouse in pots

I've got one in the greenhouse... it did a lot of growing and had flowers but hardly any flowers with fruits behind! They don't stay open for very long either!

I've had a paintbrush handy to help things along    but it's taken till now to get one pea sized fruit to even think about swelling! I think it's too late for it to come to anything now though.  :(

I will try again next year though.

A few years ago I had the use of a neighbours greenhouse and I grew some galia melons.  They did really well.

I helped them along with a paint brush and as they got bigger I used old tights to make a little sling for them to support them to stop them from getting too heavy for the plant.

I was (and still am) a complete novice at growing anything but from what I remember they took very little looking after and were really easy to grown.
I always find that work gets in the way of life.

It's my 1st year growing any type of melons and I was given some watermelon seeds that someone bought on the spur of the moment and then decided they could not grow them. My 4 plants are growing strong and I have quite a few melons on at the moment with one that is approx. the size of a mini football. I was told that they would never grow but they are doing really well in an unheated greenhouse with no special treatment and no hand pollenating. I'll keep you all posted on their progress if people are interested. :D

Theres a guy on our allotment who grows melons onhis plot.
He grows on his on top of a wooden compost bin with a glass / polythene cover on top.
He says the heat off the compost as it breaks down heats up the melons and causes condensation to drop off the glass back into the melons. He said he gets about 6 / 7 melons off each plant.

hope that helps

Have heard of doing this. Isn't it called a hot bed?
