I've not grown these (or, actually, any other cucs) before - but are they really meant to have a thin shell of flesh round a load of seeds?

Also, am I meant to rub the spikes off, or peel the whole thing?

I'm growing them for the first time as well and I plan to peel them as I don't like hard skins on my cukes. That will also solve the 'prickly' problem.

I just rub mine, though it's Crystal apple, I think, slightly different. Harvest about lemon size, they are very nice.

Hmm - maybe I'm leaving them until they are too big - I'll try the smaller ones...
