At present I have 3 sussex and 3 ex bats, but would like to get some bantams and a couple of khaki cambells. Will they all live in harmony or will there be unending fighting?

Hi Country Girl

I have a real mixture, Geese,Big Ducks, Little Ducks, Guinea fowl, Large Chickens, Little Chickens and they all live togeather happily.

There might be an odd squabble to begin with but if the introductions are done proper I can't see you'll have a problem.
My Bantys are the most fiesty birds I have

They have a lot of room so that they can escape each other as and when they want to :D

Have I forgotton something?????

Oh ye the Cats & Dogs  :D

I think it all depends on your set up,
Mine have a large area so if I'm adding new stock I put them in the coop at night, then let them out together next day. The newbies stick togeather there is an odd scuffle but there's enough room for them to escape each other :)

If they're living in a run then I think putting another run next to the existing one so the birds get to see each other during the day is your best bet. If you put the food dishes close to the netting they can see each other when feeding, then after a week maybe 2 try popping them togeather.
Like I said not actually tried this way as I've been very lucky with all my birds and they've just got on with it :)

I actually think now when they see me fetching a box towards the coop they roll their eyes and say Oh no not another one

I have two "older" hens and one older bantam, then added two young bantams (they came together), then two ducks (also came together)...yest the odd flurry but nothing awful....the rabbits are just daft and get in the way of the hens who soon see them off!

The older bantam is just in a seperate area with four chicks...wonder what will happen when she is reintroduced, she has only been with the two older hens?

u are saying that u have ducks with  your chickens , do u have a pool area as well for the ducks . i thought that chickens can drown in water quite easily , there are geese at our stables an they may jjust be needing a new home pretty soon so would i be able to home them if i decided to an get away with placing in a small pool . :?:

I can honestly say in the nearly 3 years I've had my birds I've never had a problem with the pond

Infact the chickens drink out of it

Yep you could have geese but they need lots of room & loads of grass, Crumb (my big goose) has had the odd scuffle with the hens, but there's plenty of room here so the hens stay away from the geese  :D

They do HAVE to have enough water to wash their heads and nostrils in but in my opinion (I have many   ) it really isn't fair to keep them without something they can have a good splash in. They just love it so much. Even if it is just a bathtub. Mine had a wheelbarrow base for a while and always seemed really happy. They now have a little pond and everyone takes their turn in their little cliques
Be like a duck. Calm on the surface but always paddling like the dickens underneath.

A bath will be good but don't let them go in till they've got all their feathers as they can sometimes drown.

Ducks love water they also love making muddy puddles so beware

my run is 10 metres by 6 ,, and if i get 14 chickens an then these geese would that be enough room for them, doubt i will get these geese but if the rspca do remove them then they wil need a new home. an old guy has to move out of the house that is by the yard an i cant see him taking them when he goes. rscpa are going to be taking the dogs as far as i know so i assume they will take the geese .

I think you'd be pushing it with 14 hen as well :?

The main thing would be the grass, it'll go very quickly and geese need grass all the time :)
