Peas problem
« on: August 15, 2008, 19:09 »
Hi all
I have what looks like a white mould or fungus on some of my pea plants, its on leaves and pods. My question is only about half are ready to harvest, which I will do tomorrow. But should I leave rest or harvest the lot and try to rescue what I can.

Thanks BTG.

Just seen post on cucumbers below looks similar, powdery mildew.
Any advice welcome. (my peas are a bit overcrowded).

Can you thin the peas out (hard I know) getting rid of some of the badly affected ones, hopefully this will encourage the others to finish off...
Thats what I'd do anyway..anything to get the most out of em!

But DD will know what to do for sure  :D

I was just about to post about the same thing. Does yours look anything like this?

Not terribly clear as it was a bit windy and they kept moving.

My pods are probably still a few weeks away from being ready to pick so if anyone could suggest something to help I'd be grateful. I've not got many  plants so I'd like to keep as many as possible. :(

Also slightly off topic anyone know what's causing these wiggly marks in one of my parsnips leaves. There's also lots of similar marks on the lower leaves of some of my pea plants. Though on the peas the tracks are white not brown.

hi to both of you. the white on the leavesis powdery mildew & most peas will get it this time of the year more so with all the damp weather we have been having, could try spraying with sb plant invigorator
.

the parsnip leaves have been attacked by a leaf mining sawfly. it is the grub that does this damage, not to much of a problem unless it gets out of hand, does not damage the root :D  :D

Actually Paula, I'm suprised at you for not coming up with "Mildew" as we have discussed it before!

The ones I sowed in July are zonking on, but I'm keeping a careful eye on them!
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

Try spraying the peas with approx. 1pt of water to 10 large drops of pure tea-tree oil. This is very good at getting shot of fungus. I sprayed my tomatoes a few weeks ago (had a bit of mould grwoing here and there) and it got rid of it! :)

Thanks for advice again.
I will be giving your suggestions a go today hopefully if weather stays fine.

Its a busy time, been trying to build a potting shed come chicken coop for last two weeks but weathers been so bad here not really got anywhere.

Thanks again for advice, as you can tell I know nothing about gardening but am enjoying learning. :)

That's what happens when a male tries to multi-task & read 50 posts in one sitting.

I'll go back to watching your peas dry.
